On a recent trip to HK, I needed to get some wine as a gift for my business colleagues there.

Fortunately HK is now well stocked with some great quality red wines as it now seems reds are very popular with Chinese wine enthusiasts.

This is so contrary to what was believed 15 years ago when I used to live there. The perception then was that Riesling and Gewurztraminer would be the best wines fro locals as it seemed to match their food styles – at least it did on a western palate. However, once the local market tasted good quality red wine – and they appreciated the health benefits reds could have to the heart and diet – good reds started to flow into the market.

Now I can buy the best NZ Pinot Noir, Aussie Shiraz, Californian Cabernets, South African Pinotage…you name it they seem to have it.

I found a couple of excellent sources in Hong kong – this wine lovers blog here, and a fantastic online wine shop

Enjoy!
